We all know that the shipping market suffered a great impact in the first half of this year. Port congestion, container shortage and insufficient transport capacity.
Nowadays, because of the shortage of containers, the demand for refrigerated containers has become great, and its freight rates are also rising
According to the data recently released by Drewry, the freight rate of refrigerated containers has increased significantly this year. It increased by 30% in the second quarter and has reached 45% so far.
Although this increase can not be compared with the standard container freight, some experts predict that the increase of refrigerated container freight will continue until next year, and the popularity of standard container will decline.
"The freight of standard containers will decline with the normalization of trade, but the freight of refrigerated containers will continue to rise due to the extension of long-term contracts." Philip gray, a refrigeration analyst, said.
Like standard container freight, the rise of refrigerated container freight is also related to the lack of capacity.
Nowadays, port congestion makes many container ships underutilized.
At the same time, the shortage of standard containers makes shippers have to turn to refrigerated containers.
Although this can alleviate the pressure caused by the shortage of standard containers to some extent, its loading capacity is not very large, so the transportation capacity is also very limited.
The person from a third-party logistics company said that at present, in addition to port congestion and shipping delay, inland transportation is now the most concerned thing of cargo owners.
A cargo owner said: "for shipping companies, the high congestion of container ports annoys them, and the most troublesome thing for us is from the container terminal to the destination."
In the first half of this year, some incidents occurred in ports and cities near ports in many countries, which made the road to or from the port very congested.
For example, the demonstrations in South Africa last month disrupted the operation of the Durban port and the railway connection to the port.
In addition, the forest fire in Canada caused the interruption of roads and railways leading to Ottawa port, and the logistics was seriously affected.
Some experts analyzed that in the long run, the refrigeration rate will continue to rise, but the range will not be as large as it is now.
At the same time, the situation of accommodation or equipment will not improve this year - space will remain very tight.
"Strong freight demand and tight capacity will continue to increase the freight of refrigerated containers,"
"However, with the easing of capacity demand, the Charter rate of refrigerated ships may decline recently."
