Now there are data showing that the congestion of American ports has shifted from the west coast to the east coast. At present, there are nearly 65 containers waiting to berth outside the port on the east coast.

Not only that, there are nearly 10 ships waiting outside the transfer center. In contrast, the number of ships waiting at LA / lb port, a port on the west coast of the United States, has dropped to 50.

Some experts predict that the number of ships from Asia calling at ports on the east coast of the United States may surge in the coming months. This may reduce the quality of port services.

According to the latest data from eeSea, a shipping data provider, the number of routes from Asia to the east coast of the United States has reached nearly 30 from about 20 in 2020. The capacity will also reach 889000teu.

According to McCown's data, in February this year, the port freight volume on the east coast increased by 27.3% year-on-year; The freight volume on the West Coast increased by only 5.9% year-on-year.

The agency analyzed the port data of the two regions and said that the freight volume of ports on the west coast of the United States was much more than that on the east coast in the first half of last year.

However, due to the congestion in the second half of the year, the freight volume decreased. The east coast accelerated the growth rate of freight volume in 2022.

At present, the port data on the east coast has fallen sharply. The average delay time has increased from 2.1 days in 2022 to 9.3 days at present. The attendance rate also decreased from 37.5% to about 9.3%.

The data of project44 also shows that the delay time of flights from Asia to the east coast of the United States is increasing. In February, the average delay time of the voyage from Shenzhen was as high as 20 days,

While the average delay time of the voyage from Shanghai was nearly 15 days.

New port charges will be levied at LA / LB port

It is understood that LA / lb port will charge $10 / TEU of clean truck fund for import and export containers transported by trucks on April 1.

The fee is charged to help the port achieve the goal of eliminating the carbon emissions of all trucks in the port as soon as possible. Because the establishment of this fee helps to encourage the replacement of hauling trucks to cleaner trucks.

Port operators say the fund will generate up to $90 million in the first year to accelerate the development of zero emission technology for clean trucks.

Containers transported by zero emission trucks will be exempted from this charge. Therefore, all trucks of this type will complete a one-time inspection for confirmation.
