2021 is coming to an end, but the supply chain disruption that plagues shippers and freight forwarders continues. Port congestion, shipping delays and other problems have not been well solved.
Many shipping companies have made judgments on the shipping situation next year. MSc said that they would make a series of adjustments to Asian routes.
Maersk, another shipping company, said that next year's shipping capacity may continue to be insufficient, especially for North American routes. And container shortages are likely to continue.
At present, the port congestion crisis still puzzles shippers. Therefore, this may lead to a serious shipping space crisis during the Chinese New Year in 2022. Especially 40 foot containers.
Maersk also added that they have added four ships this month. In order to reduce the impact of congestion, but this situation may not change in a short time.
In order to ensure the accuracy of the shipping schedule as much as possible, Maersk not only increased the investment in ships, but also implemented a policy of off peak travel.
Due to the shortage of 40 foot containers, Maersk is now considering using 20 foot containers for rapid shipment.
MSC will upgrade Asian routes
MSC, another shipping giant, can't sit still and has also taken some measures to deal with congestion. It will upgrade its routes in Asia from January 2022. These routes involve China, Russia and South Korea.
It is understood that this upgrade will not only reduce the number of ports docked by Golden Horn route, but also increase the number of stops in Petropavlovsk, Russia, in the new Kamchatka route.
The Kamchatka route will provide direct services to multiple ports in the above countries. Petropavlovsk is the latest port. So can the upgrading of new routes make up for the lack of capacity? Let's wait and see.
