Handling metallic cargp at P&B Terminal

At P&B Terminal, we handle various types of cargoes, including metallic cargoes.

Metal is one of the most common types of cargo shipped by sea. It is also commonly transported overland. Metallic cargoes vary in terms of metal type and shape—they can be metallic elements such as pipes or metallic machinery like agricultural equipment. They can also include oversized items, such as solar panel fixtures.

We work with different types of metallic cargoes, taking into account their specificities.

For instance, we always perform direct transshipment of metallic cargoes without storage. However, if there’s a need to store the cargo temporarily, we take additional measures to preserve it—using covers, providing extra packaging, and more.

In addition to their composition, the specifics of metal also extend to size and weight considerations. For instance, while some metal cargoes may be small in volume, they can weigh as much as 23 tons. This presents unique challenges, such as determining the appropriate container size and selecting the right vehicles for transportation.

The speed and cost of processing such cargoes depend on their packaging. If metallic structures are palletized for mechanical unloading, the transshipment process will be fast. However, if manual handling is required, the process will be slower and more costly.
